About Conrado

Twenty years of building a language school that feels like a second home.

Language is about more than grammar. It is finding your place, greeting your neighbours, doing your work, understanding your children. That is why, at Conrado, it is about people, not only about language.

Juul Kampstra, founder of Conrado
It started with one class

"I wanted a school where people not only pass an exam, but feel at home in the language."

In 2006 Juul Kampstra started with a handful of groups in Amstelveen. Today Conrado has grown into a language school with two locations, some fifty committed colleagues and thousands of students.

But one thing has stayed the same all those years: we want people to feel at home with us.

A place where you learn Dutch, dare to ask questions, are allowed to make mistakes and grow more confident step by step. Whether you come to do your civic integration, to follow a course of study, to find work or simply to speak better Dutch.

We believe language is more than grammar and vocabulary. Language gives you the chance to take part, to be independent and to find your place.

That is what we build on every day, and have done for twenty years.

What we stand for

Learning Dutch to get further.

At Conrado we believe that learning Dutch is more than learning a language. It is about what the language lets you achieve. Holding a conversation at work, following a course of study, completing your civic integration, passing an exam or speaking Dutch with more confidence in daily life.

Our promise is simple: we help you learn Dutch in a way that fits your goal, so that you can say: "Yes, I speak Dutch!"

Our core values

Integrity

We are honest, clear and dependable. We do what we promise and take responsibility for what we do.

Kindness

Everyone is welcome. We create a pleasant, safe environment where you can ask questions, make mistakes and develop yourself.

Purpose

We work towards a clear goal together. Whether you need Dutch for work, study, civic integration, an exam or daily life, we help you get there.

Humour

Learning a language is allowed to be fun. Humour makes learning accessible, relaxed and human, because enjoyment helps you learn and keep going.

Our team

50 committed and motivated teachers and staff.

Around twenty staff on the payroll and thirty freelance teachers. Below are a few familiar faces you are likely to meet when you walk in.

Our teachers

Why our teachers do this work.

Julia
I will never forget a student who did not believe in herself. She thought she would never master the language. Language set her free: the lessons gave her calm and routine, and with that she opened the door to her own future. At Conrado you get all the room you need to be yourself.
Julia
Elsbeth
We once held street interviews with people in the neighbourhood. Nerve-racking beforehand, but afterwards the students were so proud: it gave them the confidence to speak Dutch. It never stops being special how much difference you make by teaching someone the language. Students find a job, talk to their in-laws and even start wanting to watch Dutch series.
Elsbeth
Emma
What I enjoy most about my work is the variety and the contact with people. I get a lot of satisfaction from the big and small steps students take, and from watching them grow more independent. I also love exchanging stories about language and culture, learning from each other along the way.
