Teacher helping a student with civic integration
What is civic integration?

Learning a language and finding your place in the Netherlands.

Civic integration is more than passing an exam. Whether you integrate under the Wi2013 or the Wi2021, the goal is the same: to build your life independently and take part in the Netherlands.

During the civic integration course you learn to speak, understand, read and write Dutch. You also learn how everything works in the Netherlands, such as housing, work and healthcare. Students come from Amsterdam, Amstelveen and the rest of Noord-Holland.

Joining in locally

Talking with neighbours, the teachers at your children's school and your GP.

Finding work

Applying for jobs, doing your work and growing in the Netherlands.

Building a life

Studying, applying for naturalisation and finding your place.

Frequently asked questions

What people doing civic integration ask us most.

That depends on your situation. If you have a civic integration obligation as a family migrant or other migrant, you can often borrow up to €10,000 from DUO for your course and exams. If you are an asylum status holder under the Civic Integration Act 2021, the municipality pays for your integration and you do not need to borrow. We help you with the application, the paperwork and all contact with DUO. The current rules are on inburgeren.nl.
You pay for every scheduled lesson, including any you miss. The more often you attend, the sooner you pass your civic integration and the less you pay in the end. If you have a civic integration obligation, you can often take out a loan with DUO.
The B1 route is for people who can reach level B1. The Z route is for people for whom B1 is not realistic within three years. Both lead to meeting your civic integration obligation. The municipality decides which route you follow: it is set out in your personal integration plan (PIP). During our intake we assess your language level. If the route turns out not to fit, we can ask the municipality to change it.
That depends on your programme and your starting level. During the intake we draw up a realistic schedule together, based on the personal integration plan (PIP) you received from your municipality.
Yes. At the start of every month there is an entry point, so you join a group that matches your language level. If the levels within a group drift too far apart, we reshuffle the groups.
